The Tsum Valley is known for its stunning landscapes, towering mountains, and rich Tibetan Buddhist culture. The trek takes you through picturesque villages, ancient monasteries, and terraced fields, providing you with an opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditional lifestyle of the local people.
The trek usually starts from Machha Khola and follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through various villages like Philim, Chumling, and Chhekampar. Along the way, you will have breathtaking views of several prominent peaks, including Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Himalchuli.
One of the main highlights of the Tsum Valley Trek is the visit to the Mu Gompa, which is one of the oldest and largest monasteries in the region. This monastery is regarded as a spiritual center for the local people and houses many ancient artifacts and Buddhist scriptures.
Tsum Valley Trek is a relatively moderate trek, but it requires a good level of fitness as you will be walking for several hours per day in steep and rugged terrain. The best time to undertake this trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), as the weather is clear and the views are spectacular during these seasons.
Tsum Valley Trek is a perfect choice for adventure seekers and nature lovers who want to explore a remote and culturally rich region of Nepal.
Tsum Valley Trek Highlights:
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Marron Treks will receive and transfer you to your hotel. After you are greeted with welcome drinks at the hotel, we will have a quick pre-trip meeting to discuss the necessary formalities and trekking itinerary. You can then check in to your room, freshen up and rest. Or if you are not one of those “lay back” types, you can take a stroll around the vicinity of your hotel and get the feel of this hyperactive capital city of Nepal. On the streets, people seem to be in a sheer rush, barely noticing one another, but if you utter “Namaste”, they will reciprocate with a smile! Well, that’s Nepal’s Nepalese for you. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu; breakfast included.
We depart for Machha Khola, the starting location of our journey, after breakfast in the morning. It takes three hours to get from Kathmandu to Dhading Besi on a nice, concrete-paved road. From here, depending on traffic and road conditions, it takes five to seven hours to reach Machha Khola over a winding, uneven dirt road. We'll be driving for nine or ten hours overall during the day. The road from Soti Khola to Machha Khola was just built, and it lacks concrete paving. We will designate an experienced driver and provide you a private 4WD vehicle. Overnight at Lodge in Machha Khola (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Tatopani is a hot spring that may be found after crossing the Khorla besi and Machha River. The route passes through a woodland before arriving at Dovan, where the enormous Budi Gandaki flows. The rapids and the surrounding landscape completely change as one ascends higher. Overnight at Lodge in Jagat (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Our early morning hike takes us up a steep slope to Salleri, where we make our descent in the direction of Sirdibas. The trail leads to Ghatta khola and continues upstream to the Gurung settlement of Philim, where the valley widens. We walk through the forest towards the north till we arrive at Chisopani. After departing from Chisopani, we hike for about 30 minutes down the gorge before reaching the stunning waterfall. After that, we stroll through forests of pine and rhododendron and descend to Lokpa by way of the trail that leads to Tsum Valley. Overnight at Lodge in Lokpa (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
The trail is primarily a rise, making it a challenging day due to the increasing altitude. Along the trek, the expansive views of the Himalayas continually reveal and reveal themselves. We stroll through the charming Lungwa Khola settlements before climbing up through pine forests to reach Gumlung. We eventually arrive in Chumling, the lower Tsum valley, which is well-known for Chumling Gompa and its stone-paved streets, after crossing the Siyar Khola. Overnight at Lodge in Chumling (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Today's walk begins with a crossing of the suspension bridge. We stroll up the opposite path, taking in the sights of Ganesh Himal as we head toward Rainjam and Serpu Khola. We continue across the bridge and move toward the village of Gho. After two more hours of walking, we finally arrive at Chokhangparo by walking to the upper Tsum valley. Overnight at Lodge in Chhokhang paro (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
The altitude is rising sharply today, and the trail is also climbing. We stroll past the suspension bridge that crosses Lamagaon and head toward Nunnery Gompa, also called Rachen Gompa. We visit the Gompa and then head back down the route. Before arriving at the Nile, we travel via several Buddhist temples and the villages of Shiar Khola, Lar, Phurbe, and Pangdun. We also cross the last bridge. When you've rested at the Nile, you can visit the monastery at Chule, which is close by. Overnight at Lodge in Nile (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
We are getting closer to the Tibetan border on the trek today. We go up the valley's western bank, passing through scenes reminiscent of Tibet. Finally, after trudging for five or six hours, we arrive at Mu Gompa. Overnight at Lodge in Mu Gompa (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Resting and touring the Mu Gompa, the other Tibetan sceneries, and the most isolated part of the Tsum valley occupy our day today. The biggest monastery in the area is Mu Gompa. Following our tour at Mu Gompa, we might think about taking a stroll to the foot of the Pika Himal (4,865 m). Overnight at Lodge in Mu Gompa (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
We retrace our steps to Chhule and Phurbe today. We reach Burgi hamlet on the east bank of Shiar Khola. This is a charming little village. We ascend the Milarepa cave, which is well-known for its breathtaking views of the Poshyop glacier, the Churke Himal, and the Kipu Himal. Overnight at Lodge in Burgi village (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
After retracing our steps and enjoying the thick pine and rhododendron forests, we descend to Chokhangparo and proceed in the direction of the lower Tsum Valley Chumling. Overnight at Lodge in Chumling (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
There will be a six- to seven-hour walk today. We finally arrive in Philim after making our way down to Lokpa and taking in the breathtaking Samba Falls. Overnight at Lodge in Philim (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
We descend to Sirdibas, then to Jagat, and finally to Yaruphant. One may observe a gradual transition from the dry environment of Tibet to the subtropical greenery. We keep going downhill in the direction of Dovan till we eventually arrive in Tatopani. At Tatopani, there is a hot spring where, if desired, one can swim to relieve tense muscles. After a longer descent, we eventually arrive at Khorlabesi. Overnight at Lodge in Khorlabesi (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Both Khorlabesi and Machha Khola are in the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River. After hot breakfast, we will take the trail to Machha Khola. It’s mostly a decent today. We will walk on the side of the mountain with the roaring Budhi Gandaki below us, cross suspension bridges and finally arrive at Machha Khola, the end point of our trek. Overnight at Lodge in Machha Khola (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
In the morning, we'll be returning by car to Kathmandu. The first section of the road is freshly constructed and unpaved. It will be a rough journey down to Dhading Besi. The travel from there to Kathmandu will be on concrete roads, but it will still wind through mountains, so it won't be as smooth as it would be in a city. We will designate a skilled chauffeur for your exclusive journey to Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu (Breakfast/Lunch)
Our representative will take you to the airport for your flight back home. or you can extend your days and enjoy our other exciting packages like Bungy Jumping, Mountain Biking, Jungle Safari, White Water Rafting, Golfing & Paragliding etc. A representative from Marron Treks will escort you to the airport for the final departure to your homeland.
