Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Once you land at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu and accomplish your entry/visa formalities, you will be received by a representative from Marron Treks and transferred to the hotel. Welcome drinks will be served at the hotel after which we will have a quick pre-trip meeting and discuss the itineraries. You can then take your time to relax, unpack and spend the time as you wish. In the evening, stroll around the nearby places and get the feel of this energetic city. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu; breakfast included. 

 

Day 2: Flight from Kathmandu to Surkhet (198m/1 hr approx.)

Today, you’ll be flying from Kathmandu to Surkhet, a city in Nepal’s Mid-Western region. The flight will be relatively short, approximately one hour, but it offers spectacular views of the Himalayan mountains and the picturesque landscapes of Nepal. Keep your camera ready to capture the breathtaking scenery from above.

Upon landing at Surkhet Airport, you’ll notice the lower altitude and a different environment compared to Kathmandu. Surkhet is a gateway to many exciting destinations in the Mid-Western region of Nepal. Check-in hotel at Surkhet and the rest of the time is free to explore. Overnight at Hotel in Surkhet. (Breakfast) 

Day 3: Drive from Surkhet to Kalikot (1500m/6-7 hrs drive)

Have breakfast at your hotel in Surkhet before you begin your journey. The journey is estimated to take around 6 to 7 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. As you leave Surkhet behind, the road will wind through lush hills, terraced fields, and charming villages. The drive to Kalikot will take you through several small towns and villages. Feel free to make stops along the route to interact with locals, take photos, and immerse yourself in the local culture.

After a long but rewarding journey, you’ll arrive in Kalikot, situated at an altitude of around 1500 meters. Kalikot is known for its scenic beauty and unique cultural experiences. Depending on your arrival time, you might be able to witness a stunning sunset over the hills of Kalikot. Overnight at Lodge in Kalikot (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 4: Drive from Kalikot to Jumla (2514 m/5-6 hrs drive)

Bid farewell to Kalikot and begin your drive to Jumla. The drive is estimated to take around 5 to 6 hours, depending on road conditions and any stops along the way. As you leave Kalikot, you’ll be treated to more breathtaking views of hills, forests, and traditional villages. Upon arriving in Jumla, check into your lodge and take some time to explore the area. Jumla is known for its apple orchards and agricultural landscapes. If there’s time, consider visiting the local markets in Jumla. You can find fresh produce, and handicrafts, and interact with the friendly locals. Overnight at Lodge in Jumla (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner) 

Day 5: Drive from Jumla to Rara Lake (3000m/7-8 hrs drive)

After breakfast drive to Rara Lake. The drive is estimated to take around 7 to 8 hours, as the roads are often rugged and winding in this remote region. As you leave Jumla behind, you’ll traverse through dense forests, terraced fields, and charming villages. The journey will offer you awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. En route, you’ll enter Rara National Park, a protected area known for its diverse flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for wildlife and the unique vegetation of the region.

After a long but rewarding drive, you’ll arrive at the pristine Rara Lake. The turquoise waters of the lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks make for a breathtaking sight. Take some time to relax and soak in the tranquillity of Rara Lake. You can stroll along the lakeshore, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and capture some memorable photographs.  Overnight at Lodge in Rara Lake (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 6: Rest day rest at Rara Lake (3000m)

Wake up early to witness the tranquil beauty of Rara Lake in the morning light. The calm waters and the reflection of the surrounding mountains create a mesmerizing sight. Rara Lake is surrounded by pristine forests and meadows. Take leisurely walks around the lake or opt for short hikes to nearby viewpoints. The area offers ample opportunities for nature enthusiasts and photographers.

On this day you can unwind and recharge. Sit by the lake, read a book, meditate, or simply take in the tranquillity of the surroundings. It’s an ideal time to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Capture the beauty of the lake, the reflections, and the changing colours of the landscape throughout the day. Keep an eye out for wildlife in the area. Rara National Park is home to various animal species, including deer, musk deer, and various bird species. 

As the day draws to a close, find a comfortable spot to witness the sunset over Rara Lake. The changing colours of the sky will create a breathtaking panorama. Overnight at Lodge in Rara Lake (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 7: Trek from Rara Lake to Talcha airport (2735 m/2 & half hours walk)

After breakfast walk to Talcha Airport. The trek from Rara Lake to Talcha Airport is relatively short and takes approximately 2 and a half hours. The trail will take you through beautiful forests, meadows, and picturesque landscapes. As you trek, take your time to enjoy the stunning scenery and the fresh mountain air. The surrounding hills and valleys will be a treat for your senses.

After a few hours of trekking, you’ll reach Talcha Airport, situated at an elevation of 2735 meters. The airport is known for its short runway and scenic location. Check-in lodge at Talcha and the rest of the time is free to explore.  Overnight at Lodge in Talcha (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner) 

Day 8: Flight to Nepalgunj (30 min) & connecting flight to Kathmandu (45 min) 

Board the domestic flight from Talcha Airport to Nepalgunj. The flight duration is approximately 30 minutes, and it will take you back to the city of Nepalgunj. Upon arriving in Nepalgunj, you’ll have some time for transit. You may need to wait for your connecting flight to Kathmandu, so use this time to relax and grab a snack at the airport if needed.

Board the connecting flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. The flight duration is around 45 minutes, and you’ll soar above the beautiful landscapes of Nepal. Upon reaching Kathmandu, our representatives will transfer to your hotel and the rest of the time is relaxed/freshened up. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu (Breakfast)

Day 9: A free day in Kathmandu 

A free day in Kathmandu to fulfil anything that you missed out on spotting in this energetic capital of Nepal. You can indulge yourself in shopping or strolling around some of the cultural and historical landmarks of Kathmandu. Thamel is your hot spot for shopping where you can haul all the souvenirs representing Nepal and its culture. Maybe in addition to your interesting trip anecdotes, you would also want to take back some stuff for your friends and relatives. In the evening, a farewell dinner with a range of traditional Nepali cuisines will be hosted by Marron Treks. Enjoy the dinner, pack/prepare yourself for a flight back home and have a beautiful sleep. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu; breakfast and dinner included. 

Day 10: Final Departure

A representative from Marron Treks will escort you to the Tribhuwan International Airport, three hours before your flight schedule. As you wave goodbye and enter the terminal block, you would perhaps recall your arrival at this place. No wonder everything seems so familiar now because, you had come here as a tourist, but you are going back as a friend! Have a safe flight back home and we look forward to being your travel companion in Nepal again!

While you are in Kathmandu, we opt to accommodate you in 3 star or 5 star hotels like Hotel Royal Singhi (3 star), Hotel Manaslu (3 star), Radisson (5 star), Yak & Yeti (5 star) or similar.

 

During the trek, you will be accommodated in a Tea House/ Lodge or Trekking Inn. Most of these lodges and teahouses cater good services and are equipped with modern amenities. We will endeavor to provide you the best accommodation available along the route so that you get a good night’s rest in a hygienic milieu.

 

Meals
We never compromise with the quality of food and the health of the trekkers as well as the crew members. Generally, we opt for the fresh and nutritional local community food available in the Rara Region. You could make your delicious pick from an array of traditional food like Sweet Potato, Buck Wheat Barley etc. . This way, you could not only get the real sense of the local culture and life patterns but also contribute to promoting the locally available resources of organic food and beverages. Besides, a wide range of Continental, Chinese, Italian and Indian cuisines like Pizza, Spaghetti, French Fries, Soups, Breads, Masala Curry etc. are also available in the restaurants for your retreat.

Porter and Staff Care
When it comes to high altitude trekking, porters and staff members make up a pivot. Marron Treks ensures that all the porters and staff members going to high altitude conditions, are provided with adequate clothing and equipments.

 

Any Experience Required?
There is nothing hard and fast rule about trekking experience. Any adventure enthusiast, with a generic physical aptitude can definitely relish the thrill of this trek.
