Ascending further up from Punkha will reach the Gangtey Valley, the most beautiful valley in Bhutan. One can go for a Gangtey Nature trail hike to explore the valley with spectacular sceneries. The valley is home to the Black Necked Cranes during winter which flies all the way from Tibet and returns back after winter's end.

Following Gangtey will reach the Bumthang Valley where several age-old monasteries and shrines are located like Jambay Lhakang, Kurjeu Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong and Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake)
