Mt. Everest (8848m) Mountain Flight - 04 Days

The Everest Mountain Flight in Nepal offers jaw-dropping views of Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks.

Being on the land of mountains, if you don’t experience the mountains, you are actually missing out of big chunk of entertainment.  The airlines in Nepal operate Mountain Flights from Kathmandu. This hour’s long aerial retreat offers the views of some of the world’s highest peaks within a camera shutter range. You can relish the close-up view of the mighty Everest, like never before.

Both the helicopters as well as the airplanes are available for charter. STOL (short take off and landing) airstrips are located throughout the remote regions of the country from, Simikot in the west to Taplejung in the east.

As the aircraft slides along the runway and hits the sky, the scenic retreat begins. To the far left, Mt. Gosainthan, also called Shisha Pangma, stands at the majestic height of 8,013m. Immediately to the right of Gosainthan, the Dorje Lakpa (6,966m) hoods up, which somewhat appears like the number “8” laid down, all covered with snow.  Again to the right of Dorje Lakpa, is Phurbi-Ghyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley.

As the aircraft continues piercing the clear blue sky, the mountains come closer and closer. Next on the vision is Choba-Bharnare (5,933m), the smallest one in the pack but singularly stubborn as it has never been climbed. Then appears the mountain that is not only prominent in sight but also in spirituality – the “Gauri Shanker (7,134m)”. Lord Shiva and his consort Gauri are believed to be the custodians of this mountain. There had been several unsuccessful attempts to conquer its summit until 1979. Gauri-Shanker appears sharp and very conspicuous during the mountain flight.

The plane now moves towards the land of the rising sun, the eastern Himalaya, unfolding a succession of glorious mountains. Melungtse, a plateau-like mountain, stretches up to 7,023m. Chugimago at 6,297m is still a virgin, waiting to be climbed. Next is Karyolung, an intensely white mountain at 6,511m which gleams with the rising sun. Cho-Oyu (8,201m), the eighth highest mountain in the world appears stunningly beautiful.

As the aircraft incessantly maneuvers under the canopy of a crystal clear blue sky, the next one to tantalize you will be Gyanchungkang, standing firmly at 7952 m. This mountain is reckoned as one of the toughest to climb. The incredible mountainous panorama and the feel of getting closer to the mightiest mountain on earth will certainly instill an unprecedented ecstasy within you. Holy guacamole! Eventually, something we have been craving to witness is right in front of our very eyes; yes, the tallest, the mightiest, the handsomest and the grandest of all, the Mt. Everest, glaring at us with prudence and apparent immortality!!

What a luxurious way to experience the Himalayas!!
